NATIONAL HOLIDAYS

Japan has a generous amount of national holidays throughout the year, which may affect the convenience of your travel. Certain times to be especially wary of are the New Year period, the mid-August obon holiday period, and the series of national holidays at the end of April and early May, known as Golden Week, when the entire country hits the roads and rails for a getaway, the accommodation prices (if indeed you can find any accommodation during Golden Week) skyrocket, and the convenience of travel is severely affected.
