GUNMA PREFECTURE

The landlocked, mountainous prefecture of Gunma is known for its hot springs and ski resorts. The small town of Kusatsu has more than 100 hot springs, the most famous of which is a large pool in the town centre with steaming mineral water gushing down a wooden chute. Ikaho Onsen in Shibukawaikaho is a hot spring resort too - this time famous for its steep stone stairs.
