NUMATA沼田町
In this part of Hokkaido, you can travel for miles on the roads, taking in the wide-open mountain terrain without encountering any other vehicles.
Like several of its neighbouring towns, Numata (Hokkaido Prefecture) has a notable industrial past, and it is also the site of a wealth of prehistoric discoveries. During the winter, most visitors come for the skiing, but in the wonderfully humidity-free summer months, tourists come to enjoy the lush green farmland and highland scenery.
One of the 100 hidden towns in Japan chosen for this publication.
