IWATE PREFECTURE

Iwate has a fabulous mixture of countryside, and cosmopolitan culture. The prefecture includes the former cultural and political capital of Hiraizumi, the rugged coastline of Sanriku, and the mountains of Hachimantai.
Off the beaten track, visitors can experience the fascinating folk history of Tono, or be inspired by the cooperative recovery efforts of Rikuzentakata - still being rebuilt in the wake of the devastating 2011 tsunami.
