KUMANO熊野市
Kumano (Mie Prefecture) is famous among the Japanese as part of the ancient pilgrimage trail of the Mie area. The route was registered in 2004 as a World Heritage Site and, visiting here, it is easy to see why.
Aside from the Matsumoto Toge mountain trail of the area, there are plenty of other natural delights to enjoy, making an extended stay in the town worthwhile. Taxi tours and boat rides can be booked, to ensure visitors get the most out of the sights located away from the centre.
One of the 100 hidden towns in Japan chosen for this publication.
