Shiroishi is a historical castle town located in the south of Miyagi Prefecture. Its castle was the site of a ferocious battle during the Boshin War of the Meiji Restoration.
As well as being a draw for history buffs, Shiroishi is also renowned for its traditions of Yajiro Kokeshi Dolls and umen noodles. The mountains of Zao provide a stunning backdrop to everyday life in the town.
