KOMORO小諸市
Komoro (Nagano Prefecture) is situated a 20-minute, local train journey from Karuizawa - one of Japan’s most famous rural summer retreats. As well as enjoying the same refreshing climate as its scene-stealing neighbour, Komoro’s absence of bustling shopping crowds and busy bus tours allows visitors the space and time to really enjoy soaking up its beautiful mountain views, historical castle remains, hot spring baths and the mesmerising cliff face temple of Nunobiki. During the winter months, the upper slopes of the area become covered in snow and local trade shifts gear for the ski season.
One of the 100 hidden towns in Japan chosen for this publication.
