NARA PREFECTURE

One of the most delightful towns in Asia, the historical and tranquil surroundings of Nara are a treat for visitors to Kansai. Further small towns in the prefecture also provide plenty of similar, though less well-known, destinations. Ikoma is home to an exceptional shrine set against a wooded backdrop high in the mountains. The remote village of Soni has a plateau with panoramic views far and wide, and Asuka is worth visiting for its cultural sights of temples and stone figures.
