TOCHIGI PREFECTURE

Tochigi Prefecture is dominated by the forests, breathtaking lakes, and waterfalls of Nikko National Park. Nikko itself is a tourist draw, with its elaborate Toshogu Shrine, honouring the famous shogun, Ieyasu Tokugawa. The town of Tochigi is a pleasant location, with canal boat tours, traditional sweets and historical architecture. Ashikaga, home to Japan’s oldest school, is another good spot to visit.
