Tochigi City (in Tochigi Prefecture) has had a prosperous history thanks to its convenient location between Nikko and Edo (now Tokyo). Visitors can share in this illustrious past, as the city avoided damage in World War II and thus still retains much of its historical character. It bears the moniker ‘Storehouse Town’ thanks to the large number of distinctive Edo-era buildings that have survived to this day.
